How I Save Money On Travel

TIMING

Flights are cheaper Monday 12am through Tuesday 9PM.
Flights are also generally cheaper when you look overnight from my experience.

HABIT
Develop Travel Searching Habits; I treat looking for a cheap flight like it’s a job. I weigh out all my options by checking every site possible and track the prices on platforms like Hopper and Google Flights.

REWARDS
Join a reputable rewards program that rewards you with point that you can use for travel. You can gain these points by using a credit card but you can also get points by simply signing up for FREE.

I love using @aeroplan because it’s free sign up and I get points for purchases from some of my favourite retailers, like Uber/Uber Eats, Amazon and Sephora just to name a few. Don’t let your purchases go to waste! Make sure you can get points for travel with as many purchases you make.

LOYALTY PAYS
I usually fly with the same airlines most of the time. It’s important to maximize the benefits of different flight rewards programs.

Travel is something I have consciously made an effort to include in my budget, so I plan accordingly. I maximize my purchases by ensuring I can get points from them.

I’d like to think that I’ve created a lifestyle and conscious habit of getting credit card points. I make sure that every purchase I make - gets me points.

BOOK WITH AIRLINE DIRECTLY
I also book with the airline directly in case there are changes to my flight.

BROWSING
There is a different between using sites to browse and using sites to book. I usually browse everywhere and use sites like Skyscanner, Skiplagged and Hopper to browse. To book, I use the airline’s site directly as mentioned before.

HIDDEN-CITY TICKET TRAVELLING

Using sites like Skiplagged.com to check for any hidden cities.

EVERYDAY I’M HUSTLING
Make money with your hobbies whilst travelling. With networking, see what business opportunities you can get when meeting new people. Design, photography, even social media.

PTO & HOLIDAYS

Make the most of your PTO and travel around the times you have days off. Simple! Take a half-day from work, work flexibly from your destination if your company allows it!

GOALS

What is your why? What is the end goal. Do you need a change of scenery? Do you need a break from life? Do you want to see what else is out there in the world? Is it for warmer weather? Since I’ve created vacation as a lifestyle, I use it to connect with people I would not have otherwise met if I stayed at home and gain access to opportunities I would have never heard about.

Depending on your stage of life, travel might look different for you, and that’s okay. If you’re in school, there are several programs that provide opportunities and scholarships to travel the world and learn elsewhere.

BE FLEXIBLE

It is extremely important to be flexible in your travel plans. You may have to try an airline you may not be as familiar with or you may have to change your dates around. All should be done safely, but ultimately being flexible is what saves people tons of money when travelling.
